Wendy Mersh

BSc, Dip. Couns., Post Grad. Cert. CBT, BACP Accredited, UKRCP Reg.

I have been working in counselling and therapy since the early 1990’s when, after an initial training in Person Centred and Humanistic counselling (Diploma completed in 1995), I began working as a counsellor at Centre 33, the Young People’s Counselling Service in Cambridge where I worked for more than 15 years. During this time I also worked in GP Surgeries in Royston and Stevenage. In 2004, I set up in private practice working from my home address where I have a comfortable counselling room in an outhouse building.

In 2007, I returned to further train in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy on a recognised course at Anglia Ruskin University in Chelmsford, and this is now my primary mode of working (for details of recognised CBT courses see www.babcp.com). I have more recently worked as a Cognitive Therapist for the NHS Intake & Treatment Team at Addenbrooks Hospital.

My work has also been influenced over the years by an interest in mindfulness-based therapies now recognised within the NHS and recommended in NICE guidelines as an effective treatment for depression and anxiety disorders.  I often incorporate mindfulness and acceptance practices into my work.

I am an Accredited Member of BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and registered with the UKRCP (United Kingdom Register of Counsellors and Psychotherapists).

I am a qualified and experienced counsellor with a background in psychology. I consider myself a person centred practitioner although I will often draw on my experience of other approaches.

After qualifying in 2002, I spent three years working with Centre 33, the Young People’s Counselling Service in Cambridge. This was followed by a year with the NHS Complex Cases Service where I was introduced to the use of Cognitive Analytic Therapy in the treatment of Borderline Personality Disorder. In 2007, I established the in-school counselling service at Chesterton Community College offering counselling to pupils and staff. Additionally, I have worked in private practice since 2002 and have a purpose built counselling room in Fulbourn, providing a safe, comfortable and professional space for my clients to be.

I am also able to offer counselling supervision either to experienced or trainee counsellors from various theoretical orientations. I studied with Cambridge Supervision Training and hold the ASIIP Certificate in Integrative Supervision.

I am a qualified Hypnotherapist registered with the GHR.  For further details of the way in which hypnotherapy may, if you wish, be used either independently or in conjunction with counselling please see www.yourspacetherapy.co.uk or call me for more information.

I am an Accredited Member of BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and registered with the UKRCP (United Kingdom Register of Counsellors and Psychotherapists).
